CARING FOR INFANT TEETH

How do you care for your infant’s teeth? Good morning this is your Parenting

Moment brought to you by Legacy Academy For Children.

One of the most anticipated milestones in your infant’s development is the “first

tooth”. The drooling, crying and fussiness that you stressed over as a parent was

worth it. So now what do you do?

According to the American Dental Association, “baby teeth” are as important as

your permanent adult teeth. Baby teeth help children chew and also hold space

in the jaws for permanent teeth already growing under the gums.

It is recommended that after every feeding you wipe the baby’s gums with a

clean gauze pad to remove the film of bacteria (plaque) and any food particles

that may harm teeth still under the gums. As soon as a tooth is visible, begin

brushing with a soft brush and water.
